ARBEX holds general assembly, election

By Cyrill B. Molina

ARBEX held its annual general assembly and election of officers last January 10, 2003 at the 9th floor of the Multi-storey Building. Gerry Butardo, once again livened up the brief but significant program as he hosted the annual gathering of DRB examiners with his usual zest and charm.

Former Chairman Joy Lorico opened up the program with an inspiring invocation. This was followed by the report on the activities of ARBEX for the year 2002 by the incumbent Chairman Vic Berrey. Tess Corgado then presented her report on the healthy financial status of the organization. To cap the program, the Chairman announced that awards will be given to ARBEX members who showed exemplary contributions to the organization. The awardees were Joy Lorico, Hedy Taas, Noel Pajutagana and Hazel Pajutagana. Everyone agreed that no other members are more deserving than these people.

The election of officers for the year 2003 then followed. Incumbent COMELEC Chairman Eleane Reyes took over to conduct the election proceedings, which went on orderly and smoothly. Candidates for the top post of Chairman were given the chance to declare their plans and commitment once elected. Ernie Villareal gave an impassioned speech on specific plans he will implement while Cholay Ocampo promised her utmost commitment to the organization once elected.

After the election proper COMELEC counted the votes.  Winners were easily determined because there were no hitches during the proceedings. There was a close fight for the position of Chairman, with Cholay Ocampo emerging victorious with 60% of total votes over Ernie Villareal’s 40%. Likewise, Christine Tan won with 79 votes over her closest competitor Glenn Palma who garnered 66 votes. Other positions showed clearer mandates as landslide votes were obtained in the Vice- Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and COMELEC Chairman posts. Noel Pajutagana, Nida Macaranas, Roselle Gomez and Nato Trespeses posted easy victories over their co-nominees.

COMELEC Chairman Eleane Reyes reported heavy turnout of voters, with around 86% of the total ARBEX registered voters who actually participated. According to her, it showed the level of commitment of ARBEX members to the organization.

Sumptuous foods were served during the assembly.
